We left the trail and headed for the 748m peak, where we found some faint footprints, but in the end we had to break through the snow together.

However, the new snow was surprisingly hard underneath, and our snowshoes only went up to our shins.

Sometimes we would suddenly sink up to our knees, but that didn't happen very often, and we made it to the 748m peak more smoothly than we expected.

I should point out here that although I've written before that the 748m peak is my favorite observation deck for Lake Shikotsu, my favorite viewpoint is actually Poco, which is right next to the peak on the Lake Shikotsu side (although the view from the 748m peak is hard to beat).

The 730m contour line is drawn here, so it's at least 730m above, but the topographical map doesn't show the elevation.

So, "Geographica" shows it as 732m, and the accuracy is +-4m, so I wonder if the maximum elevation would be Poco, which is 736m.

Actually, I was disappointed because I unconsciously operated the two SD memory slots on the camera I used that day, and none of the 100 photos I had taken after the ones I had recorded were saved in either memory.

So the next day, I climbed from Monbetsu-dake to the 748m peak with a different camera.

This time, I was blessed with good weather and took a lot of photos.

That being said, the altitude of the "Geographica" on the same poco yesterday was displayed as 732m +- 4m.

So maybe the altitude of this poco is about 735m.

Because of that trouble, there are not many photos this time, so I decided to add the 8 photos sent by Mr. K.

I will upload the photos of the 748m peak from Monbetsu-dake, which I climbed yesterday, at a later date.

Soon after starting, there was a fallen tree on the conservation road. It wasn't there when I climbed on December 15th, so it must have been after that. There are many climbers and the ground is packed down, so it's OK to walk barefoot. Many climbers were using light crampons and chain spikes.

I left the conservation road and headed to the 748m peak with K.

It wasn't as full as I expected, only up to my shins.

Looking back at Mt. Monbetsu

748m peak in front. 735m? Poco immediately to the left.

735m? Poco and the trail of "Geographica".

The trail of "Geographica" at the top of Mt. Monbetsu. I went back to the conservation road, parted ways with K who had already reached the summit, and headed to Mt. Monbetsu alone. I think you can see the positional relationship between the 748m peak and the 735m? Poco.

At the 748m peak, Lake Shikotsu and Mt. Fufusshi and Mt. Tarumae, which should be visible in the center, are covered in snow clouds.

Me just below the 748m peak. Mt. Monbetsu in front.

You can see me in the small picture in the lower left.

I didn't climb, but the trace at the top center is by K. The top eight photos were taken by K. Shortly after we started, there was a fallen tree on the conservation road. It wasn't there when I climbed on December 15th, so it must have been there since then. There were many climbers and the ground was well-trodden, so it was OK to walk barefoot. We left the conservation road where many climbers were using light crampons and chain spikes, and headed to the 748m peak with K. It wasn't as crowded as we expected, so we turned around to our shins and found the 748m peak in front of Mt. Monbetsu. Immediately to the left was 735m? Poco 735m? Poco, the trail of "Geographica". I met Mr. K on the way down the mountain, and when I invited him, he agreed to join me to the 748m peak.
